In 2016, the agreement between the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) – the Chinese Government department responsible for promotion of Chinese language overseas – and the University of Luxembourg together with Fudan University has led to the establishment of a Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg is dedicated to promoting the development of the Chinese language and culture, not only within the University but also across the country, especially in educational, cultural, economic and scientific realms. This commitment can be seen as part of a broader approach to promote mutual understanding and strengthen bilateral relations between China and Luxembourg.
